Frida Kahlo born in 1925 gave her birthdate as July 7 1910 wanting her life to begin with the birth of modern Mexico. She painted herself in many situations saying this was the subject she knew best. A bus accident in her teens left her iwith serious injuries and in pain for the rest of her life. The long periods in hospital were often spent painting and she was much influenced by indigenous Mexican culture. She died in 1954 but did not receive recognition until the end of the 1970's with the beginning of its 'Neo Mexicanismo'.
